Geomatics Program Administrator

 

Description:

GeoNOVA has an exciting opportunity for a Geomatics Program Administrator who will play a key role in the modernization of Nova Scotia’s land management systems. This position is responsible for a variety of parcel and land-based data management practices including leading the quality control and assurance of Government of Nova Scotia parcel fabric data. This position contributes to the development of geomatics applications, services, databases, and processes, while providing technical leadership to a team of Parcel Editors. Will also provide support and guidance on land-based initiatives across government. This position reports to the Manager of Geomatics Partnership and Policy.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Provides technical leadership, mentors, and supervises a team of Parcel Editors.
  • Works with multi-disciplinary teams on systems with interdependent components (e.g., data architects, developers, database administrators).
  • Developing, maintaining, and advising on geospatial workflows, processes, products.
  • Design, develop, implement, and support web-based GIS applications and products.
  • Provide expert advice and collaborate with team members and other consultants to create and maintain dependable, efficient, and high-quality GIS solutions.
  • Manage software version updates and patch release schedule for the GIS Land Management system.
  • Evaluate and implement new technology and tools to support business requirements.
  • Developing, explaining, and presenting findings, reports, and summaries of results both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise style that is appropriate to the audience.

Qualifications and Experience

You must have graduated from an approved school with an acceptable geomatics program plus a minimum of 7 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

The ideal candidate will have training and experience in the following:

  • In-depth knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, geographic data, and related principles.
  • Experience with parcel editing tools, like ArcGIS Parcel Fabric.
  • Proficient in ArcGIS Pro and Enterprise Portal.
  • Designing, building, and maintaining an enterprise geodatabase.
  • Designing, evaluating, and querying databases, including understanding database relationships between objects/tables.
  • Automating or scripting solutions using tools such as Python, or other programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, FME, SQL)
  • The ability to articulate and relay complex problems and technical information to a wide range of audiences, both technical and non-technical.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
