Gallery And Exhibits Curator

 

Description:

Oversees and coordinates all activities and arrangements for the gallery including those
with internal departments and external lenders and collaborators

Develops exhibition ideas/themes related to collections, programs and services
Proposes annual gallery plan, drafts and administers gallery budget and schedule
Researches, plans and develops internal exhibitions and those from external lenders and

collaborators
Programs and coordinates the gallery’s educational, public and outreach services including

openings and other special events
Implements gallery policy and procedures as approved by management
Works collaboratively with internal departments to ensure appropriate standards of

exhibition are met
Coordinates production of promotional and educational materials for gallery programs
Works with the TPL Foundation and library departments to seek out grant, sponsorship,

promotional, and revenue opportunities for the gallery and exhibits program
Develops gallery performance measures and evaluates the gallery program on a regular

basis
Coordinates exhibits and displays for the Special Collections department ensuring

appropriate standards are met and provides advice and support related to exhibits and
display as required

Develops and coordinates extension exhibits
Maintains awareness of professional developments in the gallery exhibition field
Performs other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree in museum studies or related field with three years experience in a gallery outreach
program, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Demonstrated knowledge and experience of gallery or museum management principles,
procedures and professional exhibition operation and practice

Demonstrated experience in a leadership role in a gallery or museum outreach program,
working with professional staff, external funders and sponsors, and consulting with users

Proven ability to develop and manage program budgets
Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
Proven ability in project management
Strong organizational ability and excellent verbal and written communication skills
Sound knowledge of special collections, their management and preservation as asset
Demonstrated initiative and creativity with strong service orientation
Knowledge of computer systems and appropriate software applications
May be required to work shifts on a daily or weekly basis as scheduled
