Financial Reporting Consultant

Supporting the Manager of Financial Reporting, this position is responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders in preparation and analysis of periodic and ad hoc management financial reports, financial statements and corresponding notes, government mandatory institutional financial reports and survey questionnaires; and maintenance of financial system chartfields.

 


HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

 

 

  • Compile information for the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statement discussion and analysis reports, investigate and analyze major variances.
  • Provide analytical support and prepare ad hoc reporting to ensure information to management is reliable and timely for decision making.
  • Coordinate with business areas for the preparation and completion of the College’s and the Foundation’s annual financial statements, corresponding notes, variance analysis and working papers and other audit related documents.
  • Prepare institutional operational financial data and program costing reports, government reporting entity financial reports, budget package and other ministerial required reports to the Government of Alberta, response mandatory survey questionnaires to Statistics Canada and file charity information returns to Canada Revenue Agency.
  • Prepare the college’s economic impact with a standard tool developed for Alberta post-secondary institutions.
  • Provide technical support in the preparation of actual and budget program profitability reports, including data collection, analysis and allocation of revenues, expenses and overhead.
  • Provide analytical support and develop ad hoc reports to provide management with reliable information for decision making.
  • Consult with faculties and business areas to design and build reports for program planning and development, as well as funding applications.
  • Provide support, analysis, and recommendation to faculties and business areas on financial matters of various external and internal initiatives.
  • Review new public sector accounting standards and emerging business opportunities, provide initial assessments on impacts to the college and recommendation of adoption.
  • Identity process improvement opportunities with client focus and value-add mindset, reduce and automate manual accounting and reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with faculties and business areas to gather business requirements of tracking and reporting financial information through the college’s financial management system (PeopleSoft and/or information technology applications).
  • Create new chartfield values in financial management system including account, department, project, and analysis codes by following developed business rules, accounting practices and reporting requirements according to appropriate approvals and supporting documents.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and other chartfield structure on a timely and regular basis by reviewing and inactivation of unused chartfield values.
  • Be an active member of the college community participating in various cultural activities.
