Description:
Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Analyst is involved with continuous process improvements and department projects. This role includes but is not limited to preparing and recording journal entries, drafting statutory financial statements, tax reporting, the interpretation of data and reports to identify trends and bank account reconciliation. The Financial Analyst will have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to execute day-to-day reporting activities and assist with general accounting activities.
Specific Responsibilities
- Prepare and record all day to day and monthly journal entries for the Bishop Strachan School Foundation, and support recording and reporting of the BSS store financial activities.
- Responsible for drafting statutory financial statements for both BSS and BSSF.
- Tax reporting including preparing filings for HST returns and annual tax receipts and distribution.
- Works with leaders from across the school to support the annual capital and operating budgeting process, and prepare quarterly forecasts, and budget variance analysis.
- Manage the Capital asset subledger including all reporting and reconciliation processes.
- Treasury related responsibilities include bank account reconciliations, monthly cash flow forecasts and all required covenant reporting to external lenders.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of financial reports, assess revenues and expenses, and identify concerns for further discussion.
- Assist with the audit process by providing supporting documentation and responding to questions from the auditors.
- Organize, secure, and maintain all files, and records, in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Support ad-hoc projects and analysis as required by the CFO or other members of the Senior Leadership Team
- Process engineering - review processes and recommend process changes

Skills, Experience and Attributes
- A professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred
- Experience working in full cycle accounting
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills, allowing for effective communication with all constituents
- Exceptional technical skills together with the ability to interface accounting programs with other programs
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and work as a team in a busy office
- Superior analytical and creative problem solving skills
- Interest in being part of a not-for-profit organization and commitment to the vision of the school
- Experience within a mid-sized organization is an asset
