The Department of Financial Reporting Operations in Finance is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Financial Administrator.

Reporting to the Manager, Asset Management & General Ledger, the Financial Administrator acts as a mentor and assists university staff by advising on systems, programs and unit operations. The position requires understanding of accounting principles as they relate to recording of financial transactions. The incumbent is responsible for the review and initiation or approval of journal entries, requiring professional judgement and integrity. The position responds to unique financial reporting requests from numerous units across campus and will have daily interactions with internal stakeholders. The Financial Administrator will provide advice and instruction and respond to requests for information from departments and units across the institution. They will Liaise with Financial Reporting staff to ensure university financial reporting requirements are understood and work is consistently performed in such a way as to support accurate, timely and meaningful reporting while also contributing to the ongoing process improvement of the university's financial systems and processes.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Generate, review and approve journal entries related to payroll and benefits.
  • Perform thorough analysis and review of transactional data to support accurate and up to date financial records.
  • Provide guidance to journal initiators and journal requestors in order to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with Financial Reporting staff to ensure university financial reporting requirements are understood and work is consistently performed in such a way as to support accurate, timely and meaningful reporting.
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvement of the university's financial systems and processes.
  • Complete special projects as required, report on findings, prepare recommendations and monitor outcomes.
  • Effective co-ordination of workflow. Able to quickly adapt and respond to changing priorities .
  • Collection and maintenance of documentation ensuring it is well organized and readily available for retrieval.
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Implementation of and adherence to Internal controls.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum bachelors degree in a related field required.
  • 4 to 5 years of work experience in a computerized accounting environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of computer software applications (ie. Excel). Working knowledge of PeopleSoft and eFin would be considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of university financial reporting systems is required.
  • Extensive understanding of university chart-fields and ability to apply knowledge and communicate correct application of rules is required.
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to function effectively in team situations both within and across departments.
