Description:
Your strong technical design and project management skills combined with the ability to work on several tasks simultaneously to take projects from concept to completion within tight timelines will be your key to success in this position. What will you do?
- Create designs, construct and operate Traffic Control and Transportation Management Equipment within the City of Edmonton
- Complete traffic signal and Intelligent Transportation Systems layouts, ensuring conformity with Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) and City guidelines and update as-built records using drafting software
- Review plan circulations and prepare traffic signal conceptual cost estimates
- Develop, design and draft final signal layout plans by using Microstation & AutoCad, ensuring conformity with TAC guidelines, IMSA and City practices
- Quality assurance of contractor work, ensuring conformity to guidelines and specs
- Provide written and verbal responses to public
- Coordinate, direct and inspect the work of contractors including: identifying and marking locations of new signal equipment and infrastructure, monitoring construction progress, resolve unforeseen issues, ensuring installations are in accordance with plans and standards, collecting field measurements and notes for the as-built recording, commission and inspect installations
- Complete administrative activities and project documentation required for the annual signals program
- Communicate with a variety of groups regarding signal projects including internal staff, various contractors, consultants, developers, surveyors and other utility groups
Qualifications:
- Completed 2 Year Post Secondary Diploma or Degree in Electrical, Computer, Transportation, Engineering Design & Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent from a recognized institute
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in roadway construction and/or utility installation construction including planning and preparation of complete drawings, charts and maps related to signals and street lighting
- Must be eligible to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET
Assets:
- International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Level-II and Level-I Certification
- Knowledge of traffic signals construction & maintenance guidelines as outlined by TAC, ITE, and IMSA
