Divisional Laboratory Coordinator

 

Description:

Reporting to the Business Manager, this position is responsible for the development and maintenance of organizational systems for the equipment, display items, fabric and materials for the divisional labs and other resource/storage areas. This includes working with students, faculty, and staff from all Design programs to develop and implement instructional tools and training plans for equipment use, safety protocols, and lab shutdown. Some routine maintenance of labs, machines, and testing equipment is also included in support of the Divisional Lab Technician.

Education And Experience
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Business Administration or related discipline
  • Minimum three years demonstrated knowledge/expertise in working in the apparel and/or product design industry.
     

Qualifications
 

  • Demonstrated knowledge/expertise in working in the apparel and/or product design/manufacturing industry and garment/product construction is essential or a combination of related training and experience.
  • Extensive demonstrated experience with the operations, routine maintenance and safe use of machinery and testing equipment applicable to the apparel and product industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring student activity in a lab environment, ensuring the safe handling of materials and equipment.
  • Knowledge of appropriate software applications to track training and inventory systems, such as Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of appropriate software applications to facilitate operation of production equipment and to create instructional diagrams and workflow charts, such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Excellent oral, written and visual communication skills including the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strength in oral, written and visual communication including the ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a variety of individuals with diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Ability to liaise effectively and diplomatically with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders and to advocate on behalf of the University.
  • Experience developing, planning and administering systems and projects.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to juggle and prioritize tasks, work to deadlines and demands, make responsible decisions and determine when to seek advice.
  • Demonstrated innovation and change management skills which include supporting and encouraging new ideas and approaches to build organizational efficiency.
