Description:
Sun Life is seeking a Director reporting to the AVP, Investment and Operational Risk. This position is within the Credit & Investment Risk Management group in the Corporate Risk Office and plays a key role in providing oversight and challenge of risk practices and initiatives supporting the $150 billion Sun Life General Account global investment portfolio managed by SLC Management (SLCM).
The Director will be engaged in risk reviews of investment initiatives as well as the development and oversight of investment and risk policies and agreements covering more than 20 legal entities serving a variety of stakeholders in markets around the globe. The Director will interact with colleagues in investment functions managing assets for the Company. The Director will develop close working relationships with the Corporate Operational and Enterprise Risk Management Teams, SLC Risk and SLC Investment Finance, as well as other professionals across the Company.
Main Accountabilities
Monitoring risk limits, metrics, required risk processes and controls.
Assist in the development, maintenance and oversight of Investment & Credit Policies for SLF/SLA and Enterprise Guidelines in addition to assisting in the review of investment related agreements with third parties.
Support development, maintenance, and oversight of subsidiary and legal entity Investment & Credit policies (content, limits, authorities etc.) and/or subsidiary operating guidelines
Responsible for the consolidation and reporting of certain risk and compliance related information to provide a holistic perspective of risks within the Investment operation.
Provide oversight and challenge of existing risk management processes and ensure effective implementation of processes related to operational risk standards, Enterprise policies and operating guidelines.
Support the effective implementation of operational risk policies (management of model risk, third party managers, information security, etc.); review supplier relationship manager reports and inventories, model inventories, risk dashboards, and identification of emerging risks.
Co-ordinate validation of compliance attestations and testing of compliance to risk policies within Investments
Competencies
Professional/financial designations (FCIA, CFA, CA, or equivalent)
Financial services business experience (5+ years), with a background in risk management and corporate investments.
Knowledge of typical asset classes on an insurance company’s balance sheet.
Ability to build strong working relationships across various functional areas, professions, and management levels.
Analytical skills and mindset.
Familiarity with Archer
Strong written and verbal communication.
