What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the VP, Treasury Liquidity and Financial Crisis Management Group (FCMG), the Senior Director, Treasury Liquidity and FCMG, is accountable for the management and delivery of large, multi-stakeholder projects; conducts analysis in support of regulatory metric interpretation, communication and development and proactively addresses new domestic and international regulatory developments affecting CIBC businesses. You will apply technical expertise to ensure efficient, accurate and timely support for CIBC’s Liquidity Management Framework, policy development and Recovery & Resolution Planning (RRP) initiatives.

The role also is accountable for the design, development, documentation, and testing of CIBC’s financial crisis management programs, including Recovery, Resolution and contingency funding plans for the enterprise and international jurisdictions. You will design and manage CIBC’s recovery and resolution capabilities and serve as a key regulatory liaison with agencies such as the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), the Bank of Canada, and the Canadian Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC).

How you’ll succeed

  • Financial Crisis Management – you’ll support the Liquidity Management team to organize and deliver the mandate of the liquidity risk management function collaboratively, including coordination with Liquidity Solutions, Risk Management and others internal counterparts. Develop relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders to ensure effective end-to-end process management and advisory with a high degree of accountability. Proactively stay apprised of domestic and international regulatory guidance, and partake in projects/activities to continuously increase CIBC’s depth and breadth of knowledge in the subject of liquidity, funding, and crisis management including presenting opinions and impact assessments to CIBC stakeholders
  • Leadership – you’ll manage a team of subject matter experts and provide information/present technical information to senior management as well as relevant Board Committees as required, and act as a primary point of regulatory liaison after the Vice President, Treasury, Liquidity and FCMG for recovery and resolution planning matters. You’ll be a subject matter expert, acting as the primary subject matter expert for RRP at CIBC. Engage Senior Management as required to provide understanding/gain agreement with the objectives of RRP. Contribute/lead initiatives to ensure consistency among CIBC’s crisis management plans, stress testing and related objectives, often as coordinator to ensure/improve efficiencies, accuracy and legitimacy of product.
  • Delivery - Deliver on the core accountabilities of people managers at CIBC which include items such as creating a positive work environment, providing business context and prioritization, manage performance, provide feedback and guidance while building employee capabilities. Provide critical reviews of stakeholder submissions, including those from global peers, providing value add recommendations to enhance and align. Employ project management principles, developing and implementing control processes ensuring the integrity of FCMG deliverables.

Who you are

  • You have a minimum of 10 years of experience with a major financial institution. Other industry experience will be considered based on seniority and applicability.

  • You have comprehensive knowledge either working or interacting with CIBC’s primary regulators, with and independent of industry-led undertakings via the CBA.
  • Having exposure to the financial services industry would be regarded as an asset however, consideration will be given to candidates with less experience but who have a strong interest and desire to learn the financial services business.
  • You are results-oriented, self-motivated, proactive and proven ability to work independently. Focused, thorough and disciplined in approach.
  • You are decisive, confident and comfortable working closely with and collaborating with business partners.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to translate technical guidance into business terms and implications. Have comfort/previous experience in dealing with Senior Bank Management, including presentations to senior committees.
  • Advanced problem solving skills Must have ability to comprehend and interpret complex requirements, to translate these into practical steps and to organize and direct their implementation.
