Description:
Reporting to the Manager, Educational Technology (Learning and Teaching Services), the Digital Learning Environment Support Specialist (Tier 1) position provides front-line educational technology support to Algonquin College educators through assessing, documenting, and solving problems quickly (whether due to software/technical or user error). The incumbent focusses on resolutions on first contact whenever possible.
As part of support for faculty using educational technologies, the incumbent will assist with developing training and communications materials, updating websites, redesigning resources, as well as technology support for day-to-day consulting activities regarding the Learning Management System and other educational technology. The incumbent provides technical guidance and professional development consultations to College faculty and staff on current and new educational technologies, applications, and application enhancements, keeping apprised of relevant new trends and technologies.
The incumbent will capture feedback from clients on all forms of support provided; they will analyze, isolate and solve problems by providing corrective action to user-reported technical problems. The incumbent will use various troubleshooting tools and techniques as needed, and escalate sensitive requests and feedback as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum three (3) year diploma / degree or equivalent in Educational Technology, Computer Science and/or Engineering, Education, or a relevant combination of education and experience;
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience (or equivalent education) with information technology and/or the educational technology field including:
Three (3) years’ experience supporting and troubleshooting a Learning Management System (LMS) or other enterprise educational technology tools (preferred);
Recent and up-to-date experience with the latest educational technologies, eLearning products and Learning Management Systems;
Experience in training and support of educational technology.
Demonstrated ability assisting faculty in designing face-to-face, online and hybrid lessons through the recommendation of learning methods, assessment activities, course flow, Learning Management System integration, educational technologies and other interactive course components;
Experience within a teaching and learning center at higher education institution is preferred;
Highly effective communication, presentation, collaboration, and organizational skills;
Evidence of commitment to the success of all learners.
