Description:

The Victoria Hospitals Foundation (VHF) is seeking a Development Officer for a temporary maternity leave contract of up to 20 months, starting in March 2025. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to fundraising initiatives that directly impact healthcare across Vancouver Island.

VHF partners with Island Health to enable donations for essential medical equipment, special projects, education, and research at Royal Jubilee, Victoria General, and Gorge Road hospitals. In 2023/24 alone, VHF raised $15.4 million to support these hospitals, benefiting over 885,000 residents of Vancouver Island.

As Development Officer, you will lead and support various fundraising appeals under the Annual Giving program. Reporting to the Manager, Events & Annual Giving, you will oversee donor relations, event sponsorships, and community fundraising efforts to maximize support for local hospitals.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising & Donor Engagement

  • Develop and manage sponsorship solicitations, activations, and stewardship for multiple events and fundraising programs.
  • Draft, review, and edit sponsorship proposals, donor communications, and funding requests.
  • Lead the intake process for community events, corporate fundraisers, and peer-to-peer fundraising requests.
  • Develop recognition, stewardship, and post-event cultivation activities for donor groups.
  • Oversee monthly giving, “In Memory” and “In Honour” fundraising programs.

Event & Marketing Strategy

  • Manage guest engagement strategies, including pre-event communications, guest information tracking, and seating arrangements.
  • Lead sub-events such as Tasting Lunches, Sponsor Lunches, VIP Receptions, and Recognition Events.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to promote the public lotto and peer-to-peer fundraising programs.
  • Work with marketing teams to develop fundraising toolkits, branding guidelines, solicitation templates, and stewardship materials.
  • Attend community and networking events to represent VHF and engage prospective supporters.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner with Marketing & Communications to implement digital fundraising campaigns via newsletters, social media, and the website.
  • Support donor engagement through public relations initiatives and community-driven events.
  • Contribute to strategic fundraising planning and goal-setting.

Qualifications & Skills:

Post-secondary degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
4+ years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, and/or event management.
✅ Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising databases is an asset.
Excellent communication skills—able to craft compelling proposals, reports, and donor correspondence.
✅ Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple projects.
✅ Ability to motivate and collaborate with teams, volunteers, and donors.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).
Mathematical and analytical skills to assess fundraising performance.
✅ A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.

💰 Salary: 5110 – 6913 CAD per month (based on a 37.5-hour workweek)
