We are seeking a proficient Database Engineer with extensive experience in SQL database administration, tuning, monitoring, and backup on Azure. Responsibilities
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, and index optimization
- Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks
- Optimize SQL queries and database configurations to improve performance and resource utilization
- Analyze execution plans and database statistics to identify areas for optimization Implement best practices for database schema design, indexing, and partitioning
- Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, including stored procedures, functions, and triggers
- Utilize advanced SQL techniques and features to enhance database performance and functionality
- Ensure SQL code quality, readability, and maintainability
- Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies to ensure data availability and integrity
- Develop and maintain backup policies and procedures to meet business requirements and compliance standards
- Test and validate backup and restore procedures regularly to minimize data loss and downtime
- Set up and configure database monitoring tools to proactively monitor database health and performance
- Define and implement alerting thresholds and notifications for critical database events
- Respond promptly to alerts and troubleshoot issues to minimize impact on operations
- Other duties as assigned
Competencies
- Proven experience as a Database Engineer or similar role, with a focus on SQL database administration and management on Azure, along with advanced SQL code writing skills
- Proficiency in SQL Server administration, including installation, configuration, and performance tuning
- Strong knowledge of database backup and recovery procedures, including familiarity with Azure Backup services
- Experience with database monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, SQL Server Profiler, or similar
- Experience with Azure services relevant to database management, such as Azure Blob Storage, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Data Lake Storage
- Experience in deploying and managing SQL databases on Azure VMs or Azure SQL Managed Instances
