Country Lead

 

Description:

Applies expert subject matter knowledge to manage staff activities in solving most complex business/technical issues within established policies. Manages activities of non-exempt/exempt individual contributors (typically Specialist, Expert/Master). Has accountability for a large multi-department area(s) or location(s) with significant impact on business unit results and organizational strategy. Acts as a key advisor to senior management on the development of overall policies and long-term goals of the organization. Plans, manages and monitors high-end operational/tactical activities of Staff. Staff members 'primary focus is on either high-end tactical or broad strategic issues or a combination of both. Recruits and supports development of direct staff members. Position typically reports to Director or above.

Additional Guidance/Criteria:

  • Directs and controls activities within Canada.
  • Typically manages a small team. Span of Control guidelines may differ from these numbers.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Represents the full spectrum of HR functions, programs, and processes within the country (Canada)world-wide business or function. Establishes and maintains relationships with top management in order to drive the implementation of HR programs. Applies deep understanding of the business or function to design an organization that effectively implements HR programs and processes.
  • Sets expectations for program delivery across different businesses; ensures consistency within teams. Develops the change management strategy within the business to support the implementation of HR programs and initiatives.
  • Manages and evaluates the HR programs and processes within the business or function. Assesses HR implications of the business strategy, identifies opportunities to further meet business needs, and designs solutions.
  • Evaluates proposed HR programs to determine organization-wide viability; acts as the senior adviser during the implementation phase.
  • Represents the business or functional organization to the global HR community. Helps design enterprise-wide programs and initiatives by providing an organization-specific perspective.
  • Collaborates with senior colleagues in the centers of expertise in order to apply sufficient HR resources to meet the business needs.
  • Ensures compliance with current legal and regulatory environment; identifies potential compliance issues and recommends appropriate solutions.
  • Design and deploy Talent Development interventions to enable employee potential, advance future of work, and develop a deep leadership bench across all levels of CO. Apply business fundamentals and principles to inform solutions to talent challenges in CO.
  • Provide recommendations for employee engagement.
  • Consult with managers and leaders to craft meaningful strategies to retain, engage and develop high performing teams
  • Partners with senior business leaders in shaping long-term strategic imperatives and operational resilience to respond/recover from disruptions effectively. Be a trusted coach and advisor, helping our leaders work through challenges (big and small) and driving change within their teams.
  • Apply analytical rigor to dive deep and report on People trends, developing action plans to proactively address concerns

Education and Experience Required:

  • Current and knowledgeable in Canadian employment-related federal and provincial employment regulations including collective agreement administration.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and rolling up your sleeves as needed.
  • An excellent communicator with strong organizational, presentation and interpersonal skills (verbal and written – English), French is a plus.
  • First level university degree; advanced university degree preferred.
  • Typically 10+ years of experience in a diverse range of HR functions.
  • Demonstrated experience driving organizational change initiatives, developing workforce plans, and influencing business managers.
  • Experience partnering with managers to deliver HR solutions is preferred.
  • Typically 2+ years of supervisory experience.

  • Superior business knowledge; understands financials and business model dynamics.
  • Excellent project management and process development skills.
  • Superior quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, including competency in financial analysis.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
