Corporate Controller

 

Description:

We are seeking a strategic-minded accounting and finance professional to join our team as Corporate Controller. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial health of our multi-entity/multi-segment organization through the management of all general accounting functions, providing critical insights and recommendations to support our company's rapid growth strategies (both organic and inorganic) and financial objectives. This role requires a strategic mindset, strong analytical skills, experience managing the accounting function in a recurring services business (i.e. SAAS business), and experience in building high functioning processes and teams in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate for this role has their professional accounting designation; several years of direct experience as controller in a recurring services business; experience building, leading and managing the accounting function within a company or business unit; and possesses strong and demonstrable critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all general accounting functions including cash, A/R, fixed assets, intangibles, A/P, deferred revenue, procurement, revenue accounting specifically ASC606, payroll and equity accounting
  • Apply appropriate accounting practices to GL entries and transactions, maintaining robust accounting records, policies and procedures in accordance with US GAAP
  • Design, document and continuously improve financial reporting, controls, processes and procedures to manage a complex multi-entity/multi-segment structure and consolidation of multinational subsidiaries
  • Create and distribute monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements to internal and external stakeholders including materials for review by the Board of Directors
  • Lead accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes in accordance with US GAAP and internal policies, including review of account reconciliations and completion of key control activities
  • Prepare/review monthly balance sheet and income statement flux variance analyses for management reporting
  • Serve as a key partner in the annual budgeting and planning processes, including preparation of budgets, forecasts, and ad-hoc updates while maintaining the Company’s financial model
  • Manage the treasury function including weekly/monthly cashflow and liquidity forecasts, monitoring multi-entity bank accounts to ensure adequate cash balances to support needs; approve wire transfers; reconcile bank accounts, provide cash activity summary to management; all journal entries surrounding cash
  • Assist with responses to investors, bankers, insurance carriers, tax preparers and external auditors when needed and on a timely basis
  • Apply knowledge of US GAAP to monitor, research, evaluate impact and prepare technical memos on complex accounting issues, new accounting pronouncements and implementation of new standards to meet disclosure and regulatory requirements
  • Manage the financial audit process, including preparation of materials for the financial statement audit, serve as key liaison with the external auditors, and monitor and resolve issues promptly
  • Oversee tax compliance and coordinate tax returns, tax studies, as needed, and tax provision with external tax advisor. Manage and comply with sales tax, provincial, state, and federal reporting requirements (e.g. multi-province/state sales tax returns, etc.)
  • Plan, hire, manage, mentor, lead and promote a fast-growing high-performing accounting team, providing coaching and direction to team members on performance management and talent development.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in a financial manager or leadership position, preferably in high-growth tech-enabled services companies, with a track record of career advancement and increasing responsibility
  • Strong understanding of recurring B2B tech-enabled services business models and related professional services activities
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading teams
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate accounting information into actionable intelligence
