Description:

  • Preference will be given to relevant experience in media editing and production, media/broadcast operations, graphic design, social media, or comparable experience.
  • Demonstrated pertinent work experience with additional specialized courses in Communications, Marketing, and social media.
  • Demonstrated experience with social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and routines required through related experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of marketing concepts and strategies
  • Demonstrated creative and innovative focus on service delivery and a commitment to continuous improvement of customer service.
  • Demonstrated discretion and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, observation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency on computer and various office software including Microsoft suite, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Desktop Publishing, Website Management, Social Networking Programs, and ability to learn new software tools.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design software such as Canva, Photoshop, etc.
  • Experience with audio/visual equipment.
  • Multilingual considered an asset.
  • Ability to use video production, multimedia, and related technologies, including computers, digital cameras, video conferencing, and a variety of software programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Superior writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to relate courteously with members of the service, the public, and outside agencies.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Assist with initiating, promoting, and encouraging effective internal communications strategies and practices at all levels of the institution.
  • Assist with development, design, and expand the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service website.
  • Assist in the ongoing in-service training and support to staff regarding media/public relations.
  • Assist in audio, video and multimedia production for delivery or distribution in a variety of formats or methods.
  • Assist with scripting and provide video recording, audio recording, video/multimedia production and postproduction services.
  • Assist agency photography services.
  • Assist with new technologies with educational application and make recommendations for additions, changes, and improvements.
  • Assist in ensuring consistency of branding and corporate messaging on all communications.
  • Assist in development of new and innovative social media strategies/plans to enhance the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s corporate image.
  • Assist in maintenance of Service’s website and its content.
  • Assist in development and preparation of promotional materials for the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service including brochures, newsletters, and information packages.
  • Assist in coordination of the production of communication materials to ensure a standardized and consistent image and identity is used to reinforce the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s profile.
