The Communications and events officer will work under the direction of the Associate director of operations and administrative services and in close collaboration with the Corporate relations team of Soutar career services. The communications and events specialist will have a 3-part role:

  • Manage the branding and communication of the Soutar career services, ensuring an engaging, consistent and professional image, eventually developing and implementing an innovative communications plan.
  • Oversee the planning, execution and continuous improvement of all communications and events activities specific to career services throughout the year (career fairs, key recruitment and networking activities for students, employers and alumni).
  • Supervising student interns that can support the coordination of events and engaging the alumni community.

Primary Responsibilities:

Branding and Communications

  • Develop and implement an innovative communication plan to promote Soutar career management services and activities, while presenting a consistent image to future and current students, alumni and external partners (employers, vendors).
  • Provide professional expertise and advice in the Desautels student journey, business development relations, special events, alumni relations to ensure impactful, consistent messaging and delivery of brand and provide relevant recommendations and innovative solutions.
  • Design and maintain the career center website, aiming for best user experience (student, employer, alumni), including writing content and using social media feeds to attract students and staff to the site, and to generate public interest.
  • Develop web-based forms, templates, e-communications, page interactions, navigation features and ensure coherence and consistency between materials.
  • Create communication material and design marketing content to promote activities to students, employers, alumni, faculty-based colleagues, and the public. This can include writing content, newsletters, announcements, slides, handbooks, bulletins, posters, and using social media feeds.
