Description:
Under the direction of the Lead Pastoral Administration, the Communications & Audio Visual (AV) Advisor will collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to deliver on the communications and Audio-Visual needs that respond to Christ the King Parish’s mission and vision. This individual will ensure high-quality and high impact communications are created for both internal and external audiences. This individual will be results-driven, creative, innovative, and a strategic thinker.
The position requires 28 hours per week and is overtime exempt. The work location is located at the Christ the King Parish Office located at the St Vincent de Paul Church site, 320 Flying Cloud Drive, Dartmouth, NS.
Main responsibilities and duties:
- Communications Strategy
- Contribute to keeping the parish’s Communications Strategy up-to-date and meeting the needs of the parish focusing on both short and long-term goals and objectives that responds to the needs of the parish community
- Develop communications processes to create an environment in which messages can be communicated clearly, creatively and effectively
- Develop and manage the communications calendar
- Keep communication projects and tasks on time and on budget
- Facilitate Team Communications
- Collaborate in communication with the leadership bodies of the parish (Clergy, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Pastoral Council (PC), and Finance Council (FC))
- Develop regular communications tools and strategies to ensure that ministry leaders and parishioners are informed of Clergy, SLT, PC, and FC decisions and strategies for growth and mission
- Facilitate Parish-Wide Communication
- Lead and manage a team of volunteers to help implement communications strategies and tactics, including the following kinds of activities:
- Develop and maintain the parish website
- Maintain an interactive social media presence (including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)
- Collect and share testimonies of those who have had life-changing encounters with the Lord in our parish community
- Take photographs during weekend and special events for use in parish communications
- Prepare and produce written, video, and audio communications in accordance with the strategic communications plan
- Produce a weekly bulletin to parishioners to be distributed via email and via print at Weekend Masses (i.e. a one-page bulletin)
- Develop, design, and produce a periodical that communicates our Christ the King vision and mission (i.e. a quarterly or monthly newsletter that contains a letter from the pastor, photos, interviews, testimonies, articles, etc.)
- Carry out the day-to-day tasks of facilitating communications within the parish
- Manage and Facilitate External Communications
- In collaboration with the Archdiocesan Communications team:
- Promote diocesan events and opportunities, such as the Steubenville Conference, the Assembly of the People of God, the EQUIP Program, etc.
- Communicate regular news from our diocesan community that would be of interest to our parishioners
- Collaborate in promoting local community-based service and outreach ministries that are supported by the parish (i.e. East Dartmouth Christian Food Bank, Margaret’s House, etc.)
- Utilize advertising/marketing to engage the broader Dartmouth community
- Audio-Visual (AV) duties:
- AV duties include conducting a needs assessment of all AV issues in the parish and providing Senior Leadership Team (SLT) with a detailed assessment of what is required to meet the needs of the parish. Developing, leading, and training a livestream volunteer team and ensure team is provided with the necessary training in the proper use and effective problem-solving techniques of AV equipment.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12, plus communications/marketing diploma or degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Recent related experience in the following:
- Computer Proficiency: Must be extremely comfortable working with computers, including Microsoft Office suite
- Writing: Must have above-average written communication skills, including the ability to edit and adapt written text to match the medium by which it is being communicated
- Social media: Proficiency in social media platforms and strategies for engagement
- Design & Layout Skills: Knows and understands basic design principles, and can demonstrate familiarity, or the ability to learn, with software programs for graphic design and layout such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Publisher or similar
- Video Editing: Demonstrates competency in basic video editing, or the ability to learn, using software such as iMovie or similar
- Web Development: Demonstrates skill in basic website development using WordPress, or the ability to learn
- Ability to convey technical information/direction/training to others who may not be familiar with the technical language
- Good problem-solving and trouble-shooting ability – ability to resolve complex issues and unforeseen obstacles quickly and efficiently
- Knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith, structure, and culture
- Understanding and support of the mission of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth, including the document “Communities of Missionary Disciples”
- Proficiency in the French language would be an asset.
