Description:
The web and communications officer holds a key function within their role to ensure alignment with brand objectives, writing usage standards and content integrity, and style and voice for externally facing communication. The incumbent will ensure that target audiences experience optimal interaction with Student Support Services and the college using these vehicles while delivering on departmental goals and strategic directions. The incumbent will use WordPress (content management system), as well as appropriate web and social media tracking tools. . The incumbent is an integral team member within the AC Hub and Student Support Services. Project management knowledge and use of project management principles, digital tools and assets is required.
For other digital and print vehicles, such as the AC Hub Newsletter, Student Support Services event calendar, myAC postings, social media posts, digital magazines, digital Student experience reports, print and promotional materials. The Communications and Web Officer will work with internal stakeholders to identify objectives, develop creative messaging, assemble information and provide clean final copy to complete the given project. The incumbent will also serve as a reviewer of other content created by other writers. The Communications and web officer will also be requested to edit high level documents being submitted to governing bodies of the college.
The incumbent will have a deep understanding of the concepts of writing and editing to support brand personality and content accuracy and will give ‘voice’ to the concepts inherent in the AC Hub/Student Services brands.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops and maintains web content for Student Support Services and the Vice President, Student Services website pages:
Responsible for creating new content and updating content for departmental site pages as necessary, including home page (this is done using the content management system WordPress);
Works with Student Support Services Management team as well as other internal stakeholders to identify new content goals, find consensus on approach, assemble supporting information and discuss messaging and content;
Works with the Creative and Technical Designer to create visual elements for websites.
Researches requirements for each copy requirement by:
Working with the appropriate sources to improve understanding and develop the message that is to be conveyed;
Researching content requirements relating to project for inclusion or to support a premise offered in the final copy;
Formulating angles and messaging related to producing written materials that are effectively aligned with communications strategy and best web practices;
Brings departmental voice, usage standards and reader-centricity to development of compelling and clear creative copy;
Gains approval on final content prior to posting when necessary;
Receives requests for updates and maintenance to current web content and site organization;
Uses Google Analytics to track relevant data.
