DUTIES
Reporting to the Associate Director, Alumni Engagement, the successful applicant will support the activities of both the Office of Alumni Engagement and the Office of Development. Using a range of communications and marketing channels, the candidate will have specific responsibility to lead promotional efforts and initiatives (e.g. alumni events, programs, outreach systems, etc.). Duties include contributing to leading and implementing a departmental social media strategy; collaborating to ensure synergy with Memorial's broader social media strategy; scheduling content by way of a comprehensive editorial calendar; managing the email blast process; gathering data for performance metrics and benchmarking; soliciting potential advertising clients for Luminus magazine; and maintaining and creating content for website. The applicant will oversee contract fulfillment and requirements associated with alumni benefits and services. In all cases, the applicant will be required to develop promotional materials using excellent writing skills, and providing advice that is guided by the incumbent's knowledge of best practices. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining timelines and appropriate resources for projects; coordinating approvals and feedback loops; processing implementation; and performing other related duties as required. Some flexibility with regard to work hours, including occasional evening and weekend work, is required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Considerable experience (3-5 years) in marketing or communications, or public relations; graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in marketing, communications or public relations; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Experience in project management; developing a variety of effective and innovative social media, digital deliveries, including websites; strong verbal communications would be considered an asset. Excellent presentation, writing, editing and proofreading skills; demonstrated good judgement; ability to work both collaboratively and independently; and strong interpersonal skills are required. The ability to be self-directed and deadline-driven is essential for this role. Knowledge of and experience in social media is required, as is experience using Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The successful candidate is expected to be versed in the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of editing and design products. Digital experience and a familiarity with graphic design principles and practices would be considered assets. Experience working in the higher education sector preferably working with an advancement office, alumni or donors, and using a variety of related print and electronic media, would be definite assets.
