The Role: The Communication and Engagement Manager develops and implements strategic communication strategies and activities in support of policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement, in particular on issues relevant to public health, biodiversity conservation, novel technologies and sustainability. This includes taking the lead in delivering specific projects for clients, developing content (briefing notes, speaker notes, factsheets, etc.), delivering workshops, trainings and webinars, designing and managing social media campaigns, strategic planning and execution of events and other engagement opportunities, and support to clients and delegations during key events.

This is a one-year, renewable, full-time contract. Emerging is a Canadian company, but the entire team is virtual, so the position is remote. A location in Africa, Europe or the Middle East may be most convenient.

The person we are looking for must be fluent in English, with additional language skills (particularly in French, Spanish or Swahili) a notable advantage. Willingness to travel internationally is required.

Profile:

• 5+ years’ work experience after university (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, no specific subject matter as a prerequisite but political science, international development or communication would be useful)
• Experience in a communication role, ideally working on campaigns or advocacy, for NGOs, international organizations, think tanks, or similar.
• Experience in a client-facing role, with an ability to navigate complex situations in cross-cultural settings.
• Experience developing communication and campaign strategies and supporting advocacy initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
• Fluent English and ideally one other language (French, Spanish or Swahili would be most useful).
• Excellent writing skills, with the ability to handle large amounts of technical content and present this in engaging and easy to understand ways.
• Familiarity using social media tools and platforms for outreach.
• High attention to detail and excellent accuracy in writing and in oral communication.
• Dynamic, motivated, intellectually curious, able to work in high pressure environments and willing to be flexible on assignments and roles.
• Experience working with people from different countries or in an international environment.
