Collections Digitization Specialist

 

Description:

Reporting to the Art Gallery Manager/Curator, the Collections Digitization Specialist will be
responsible for the GPAG Digitization Project. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring high
quality digital images are properly filed and digitized in line with the Gallery’s Digitization Strategy,
updating all digitized records on Past Perfect, and developing a series of content related to the
digitized works for public engagement, including virtual exhibitions, website material, social media
content, and printed material.

1. Document Digitization (%)
 

1.1 Plans and coordinates the safe handling of Gallery collection pieces to permit their
careful, detailed and efficient photography or scanning.

1.2 Develop and implement a digitization log and digitized media management protocol
for the project.

1.3 Record information throughout the process in a digitization log, such as errors in
location/labels, missing descriptions, inadequate record entries, supply shortages,
etc.

1.4 Familiarize self with the storage and vault areas of the Gallery to facilitate an easy
and careful digitization process.

1.5 Work closely with the Art Gallery Manager/Curator and Curatorial Assistant to plan
the digitization process.

1.6 Establish and maintain comfortable and collaborative working relationships with other
members of the Gallery team and Town of Grimsby staff.

1.7 Work regularly with the curatorial team and contracted photographer to support the
digitization process (i.e. moving and posing large paintings and objects, making notes
and recommendations for any works that might need preventative conservation).

1.8 Participate in daily and weekly briefings with Gallery staff and convey information and
progress on the project.
