What can you expect in this role?

  • Work collaboratively with a diverse range of partners across the enterprise to draft, review and revise statements of work, schedules, templates, licenses, non-disclosure agreements, contract renewals, amendments, assignments, notices of termination and contest rules.
  • Independently draft, review and negotiate lower risk contracts using approved templates and/or pre-defined standards and escalate contracts for further review/approval in accordance with enterprise procedures.
  • Manage enterprise trademark portfolio. Coordinate and liaise with external counsel as required.
  • Provide crucial legal support to department lawyers, focusing on commercial and information technology law matters, including preparing legal documents and assisting with client communications.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of our processes and systems for contracting.
  • Provide assistance for strategic initiatives as required.
  • Build and manage precedent and template documents and augment similar existing department resources.
  • Conduct legal research on matters including information technology law, intellectual property rights and emerging legal issues in the commercial and technology sector.
  • Help to ensure team collaboration, information sharing, organization and appropriate use of technology.
  • Other projects and assignments as required to support the legal team’s objectives.

What do you bring to the role?

  • Law Clerk Diploma or Law Degree.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department with a focus on commercial and information technology contracts.
  • Exposure to insurance or other financial institutions is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, research and drafting skills, including the capacity to communicate with business partners in the way they want to be dealt with.
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Proficiency in legal software.
  • Exemplary professionalism and integrity.
  • Self-starter with a great attitude.
