Description:
The incumbent provides intake support by gathering information from clients, analyzing the information and referring the client to the appropriate resources.
The incumbent prepares and delivers workshops to clients as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in daily operations of the Employment Resource Centre by providing direct client support to clients using the centre.
Greets and screens incoming clients in order to determine their eligibility for service by completing initial review and assessment of the client’s background information.
Assists clients with completing application forms for Community Employment Services, Summer Job Service, Targeted Initiative for Older Workers and various online applications including OCAS, OSAP as well as Social Assistance.
Reviews client applications to ensure correctness and completeness.
Facilitate and assists clients with the use of computer, internet, fax and photocopy machines.
Provides guidance and support to clients as they research training options such as upgrading/high school completion, post-secondary programs or apprenticeship.
Provides guidance and support clients in job search and employment preparation through resume and cover letter development, sharing of job postings as well as information on labour market trends and other community-based services.
Assists clients in registering for various online certifications which support employment, i.e., WHMIS, Customer Service, Workplace Safety etc, offered through NORCAT.
Completes follow-ups of clients and reports updates/outcomes to Case Manager.
Required Qualifications:
Two (2) Office Administration-Executive, Business or Human Resources Diploma;
The incumbent will possess three (3) years of previous relevant experience working within the Career/Employment Counselling field where responsibilities include working with clients to develop resumes and action plans.
The incumbent will possess excellent organizational skills, planning abilities and attention to detail.
The incumbent must have demonstrated customer service and organizational skills to manage a busy workload, handle multiple tasks, establish priorities and work under pressure to meet conflicting deadlines.
Additional Skills:
Must be an effective communicator who demonstrates exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills required to provide counselling support to a diverse group of clients. Previous experience will reflect the incumbent’s analytical abilities and proactive approach to problem solving and case file management.
The incumbent will have sound knowledge of workplace legislation and health and safety laws.
Experience working with a variety of software packages; i.e. Word processing, email, internet and database entry.
Demonstrated knowledge in labour market trends, employment conditions and community agencies.
