Michael Smith Health Research BC is seeking a visionary Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the province’s premier health research agency. As the strategic head of the organization, the CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors, health researchers, scientific communities, and government leaders to strengthen BC’s health research ecosystem.

This role is instrumental in driving systemic change, knowledge mobilization, and collaboration between government, academia, healthcare providers, and industry to translate health research into real-world benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership: Shape the future of BC’s health research system, driving innovation and systemic change.

• Partnership Development: Foster collaboration between government, academia, health system leaders, and the life sciences community.

• Advocacy & Influence: Serve as a trusted leader and advocate for equity, diversity, and Indigenous-led research.

• Operational Oversight: Ensure the organization delivers measurable impact for patients, communities, and the economy.

• Board & Stakeholder Engagement: Report to the Board of Directors and engage with provincial and national stakeholders to enhance research capabilities.

Qualifications & Skills:

✔ Proven executive leadership in healthcare, research, public sector, or not-for-profit organizations
✔ Strong strategic thinking & decision-making abilities to guide research funding, policy, and partnerships
✔ Experience in high-level stakeholder engagement, including government, academia, and industry leaders
✔ Excellent relationship-building & communication skills to advocate for BC’s health research sector
✔ Ability to manage change and lead teams in a complex, evolving environment
