The Opportunity


Reporting to the Associate VP, Academic, the Business Solutions Architect (BSA) has the mandate to optimize the delivery of business services in the academic division to realize the integrated (business/technology) strategy and ensure that individual business units are receiving the necessary support to perform their functions.

 

Business capabilities are a combination of business processes, technology, and assets. The BSA demonstrates the level of alignment between strategic goals and key business and technology decisions. As such, the BSA needs to have significant knowledge in subject matters pertaining to both IT and academic systems, and must have a thorough understanding of the academic systems to identify its needs and create business solutions.

The Role

    • Apply a structured business capabilities architecture approach for the academic division.
    • Create a methodology for capturing the key views of the business and IT in the context of the academic division.
    • Capture the strategic business goals that provide traceability through the academic division and are mapped to metrics that provide ongoing governance.
    • Describe the primary business functions of the academic division and distinguish between student-facing, faculty/staff support, and academic management functions.
    • Enumerate, analyze, catalog, and suggest improvements to the strategic, core, and support processes of the academic division, as needed to support strategic and operational goals.
    • Define the data elements shared across the academic division and between the academic business units, and the relationships between those data elements and processes, systems, technology, and other data elements.
    • Enumerate, analyze, and suggest improvements to the structural relationships of the academic division. This requires the creation and maintenance of an ongoing model of roles, capabilities, and business units, the decomposition of those business units into subunits, and the interplay between these units in various business processes, materials, and systems.
    • Act as a subject matter expert in the development of the academic business architecture framework development, tool suite selection, and design and methodology development.
