The Timber Pricing and Authorizations Team in the Okanagan Shuswap Natural Resource District is a well-established group of eight (8) dedicated professionals, including Registered Forest Technologists, Registered Professional Foresters, and Licensed Scalers. This diverse team brings a wealth of experience and expertise, focusing on delivering Forest Act Authorizations, such as tenures for major licensees, minor tenures, woodlots, and community forests. Our team works in a variety of settings, and includes a mix of office and fieldwork, ensuring timely and accurate issuance of permits, while managing the financial interests of the province. The Role:
This Authorizations Specialist position involves administering Woodlot, Community Forest, and Small Scale Salvage tenures, including preparing cutting and road permits, conducting field inspections to support monitoring goals, and assisting the public and clients with tenure-related inquiries. By ensuring the timely and accurate issuance of permits, the position directly contributes to the efficient management of local resources, benefiting both tenure holders and the community. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Forest Technologist with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Applicants currently registered with FPBC as an ASTFT or TFT (or able to transfer their current ASTFT/TFT membership to FPBC within six (6) months) and can achieve full professional designation (RFT) status within 12 months may be considered for this position at a lower classification. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in the natural resource field, or equivalent as recognized by FPBC, and two (2) years of related experience; OR,
  • Diploma in a natural resource management field, or equivalent as recognized by FPBC, and three (3) years related experience; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Related experience includes the following:

  • Experience working in natural resource management; preference may be given for recent experience (within the past five (5) years).
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
  • Experience in consulting, negotiating, and resolving conflicts with partners and stakeholders in natural resource management.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience in leading, coaching and/or mentoring staff.
  • Recent (within the past five (5) years) experience related to:
  • Forestry Authorizations such as review, preparation or issuance; and/or,
  • First Nation Consultation and/or information sharing and review.
