Description:
The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire a full-time Associate Director, Capital Improvements, in the Facility Operations Division.
Reporting to the Director, Facility Operations, the Associate Director, Capital Improvements, is responsible for the oversight and execution of the CTCC’s capital plan. This position is responsible for following project management best practices, engaging meaningfully with external stakeholders, working alongside external contractors as well as internal functional department management and employees to produce project deliverables as per approved project management plans, ensuring that CTCC business is not impacted, CTCC standards are maintained, and CTCC health and safety protocols are met.
Duties and Responsibilities
- In conjunction with the Director, Facility Operations, oversee all matters pertaining to the Capital Improvement department’s operation including direct supervision and coaching of Capital Improvement positions.
- In conjunction with the Director, Facility Operations, plan, develop, implement, and manage the short and long-term business plan and budget for the Capital Improvement department.
- In conjunction with the Director, Facility Operations, develop and maintain positive relationships and liaise with internal departments, in-house service partners, external stakeholders, and contractors to execute projects.
- Responsible for providing technical expertise for Capital Improvement projects.
- Responsible for ensuring that the execution of the capital plan does not interfere with client usage of the CTCC.
- Responsible for creating business cases for potential projects.
- Responsible for the creation, management, and monitoring of project baselines of scope, schedule, and budget.
- Responsible for ensuring change order requests, work requirements, permit applications and other documentation for approvals are submitted and approved.
- Responsible for stakeholder engagement and communications strategies, monitoring throughout the project lifecycle to ensure effectiveness to internal and external stakeholders.
- Responsible for project quality standards, monitoring throughout the project lifecycle to ensure compliance.
- Responsible for project risk management plans, monitor risk throughout the project lifecycle and activate planned and unplanned risk responses, ensuring proper change control process as required.
- Responsible for documentation for tendering and RFP processes for project requirements as outlined in the Centre’s policies and procedures manual.
- Responsible for creating and managing project resource requirements, working closely with functional departmental managers to ensure resources are available for both operational and project needs.
- Responsible for the accuracy of Capital Improvement department related invoicing, including review, approval, and receiving of project invoicing.
- Monitor and report on progress, threats, and opportunities associated with the execution of the CTCC’s capital plan.
- Keep abreast of industry trends and conduct on-going environmental scans to recommend adjustments to departmental goals and objectives as required.
- Facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders, contractors, and resources to identify and review project requirements.
- Ensure outside contractors comply with contract terms, applicable codes, and security procedures.
- Manage disciplinary issues and/or terminations in consultation with the Director, Facility Operations, and the Director, Human Resources
- Work flexible and overtime hours as required by project schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
