The Department of Linguistics in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for one three-year contractually limited term appointment (CLTA). The appointment is in the area of Sociolinguistics with a focus on minoritized languages and multilingual speakers. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of October 1, 2023.
Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Linguistics by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research, teaching, and pedagogy, specifically in the area of Sociolinguistics, with a focus on heritage or other minoritized/underdocumented languages and strength in quantitative variationist and sociophonetic analysis. A record of pedagogical inquiry (SoTL) regarding the inclusion of such speakers and languages into the university curriculum is an asset. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths.
The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, refereed and/or invited presentations at national and international conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching and mentorship accomplishments, the teaching dossier including a teaching statement, and sample course materials submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference.
