Description:
KEY DUTIES
Develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives related to arts and culture including the support for public art, festivals, events, film, music and the creative industries; produce reports and updates on status and results; assist in the development and implementation of an arts and culture master plan, including the public engagement component; perform complex project management duties related to program areas; offer technical expertise relating to public art, events and the creative industries.
Lead and contribute to interdisciplinary teams to enhance collaboration and communication among strategic partners. Coordinate and manage cultural projects and programs with internal stakeholders and with government and community partners; develop and evaluate long-term strategies; monitor effectiveness of cultural programs and initiatives.
Research and prepare communication materials targeted at internal and external audiences; prepare presentations on various initiatives. Provide communication support and respond to public inquiries; including preparation of media releases and supporting materials to raise awareness of the City’s arts and cultural programs and services
Represent the Department and promote the City of Victoria and its initiatives with stakeholder and community groups; develop and coordinate event planning and management.
Draft reports, briefings and updates for Management and City Council. Assist in developing and refining cultural plans, policy, guidelines and evaluation methods.
Prepare and monitor budgets related to areas of responsibility; prepare applications for grants and funding assistance and provide input to purchasing process where applicable; select, coordinate, monitor and review the work of consultants as required.
Perform related duties where qualified.
INDEPENDENCE
Work is generated by annual objectives, departmental work plans, requests from Council,
operational demands, emerging issues or is assigned by supervisor.
Work is reviewed through meetings with supervisor.
Issues such as major expenditures or deviations from policy are referred to supervisor.
