Description:
Reporting to the Manager of International Admissions, the incumbent is responsible for the admission of international students to the College’s programs. The incumbent evaluates applications, documents and credentials; inputs all necessary data to the College’s information system; provides admission advisement to applicants and members of the community; and keeps applicants and other stakeholders informed throughout the admission process.
Responsibilities:
Admission and Evaluation
- Admits students to diploma, certificate, fee-for-service, graduate certificate and degree programs.
- Determines applicant eligibility for admission and evaluates academic credentials, standardized test results, language proficiency scores and documentation relating to residency/citizenship status; determines if applicants will write pre-admission tests.
- Interprets data transmitted from OCAS and the College’s International Web Application (IWA) to prepare applicant files for admission decisions, evaluate the credibility of documents, identify fraudulent documents, and generate admissions-related correspondence.
- Offers and denies admission, re-directs applicants to other pathways, evaluates the credibility of documents, identifies fraudulent documents, and creates associated correspondence.
- Monitors offers of admission, fees paid, outstanding offers and partial fee payments to meet college targets and program limits.
Customer Service
- Provides application and admission advisement to applicants, parents, counsellors and faculty in person, by telephone and by email, demonstrating excellent customer service at all times.
- Re-directs applicants to alternative programs at Seneca and elsewhere, evaluates test results and recommends other pathways for the applicant such as the preliminary Seneca College ELI language program to become qualified appropriate to the candidate’s level of academic achievement.
- Clarifies and differentiates programs and career fields for similar programs, explains the policies and procedures of the College and of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
- Provides, at times, advisement related to the Student Authorization/Study Permit procedures, fee payment options including bank-to-bank wire transfer payments, refunds, and the additional documentation that may be a requirement.
Student Records
- Maintains and updates information in the student information system that will keep applicants’ electronic files current (qualifications, missing documents, secondary school subject enrolments).
- Monitors applicant electronic files and other information to ensure evaluation is against the right set of requirements and that applicants are progressing toward an admission decision.
- Reviews fee payments submitted and prepares and processes appropriate refunds or transfer of funds for applicants who withdraw, defer or transfer.
